US Open 2019: World No.1 Novak Djokovic out due to injury
On Sunday, at the US Open in the US, world number one Mans player Serbia’s Novak Djokovic was ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury. Djokovic was trailing in the third set after losing two sets in the pre-quarterfinal against Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland when he decided to leave the game.
Djokovic won the Australian Open:
Roger Federer, who won the Grand Slam 20 times, reached the quarterfinal of this tournament for the 13th time. They defeated the 15th seed Goffin in 79 minutes. Federer next faces Gregor Dimitrov of Bulgaria. Federer has never lost in 7 matches against Dimitrov. World No. 78 Dimitrov defeated Alex de Minor of Australia 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.
Serena Williams faces China’s Wang Qiang in quarterfinal:
In women’s singles, world number-2 Australia’s Ashley Barty succumbed to vicissitudes. He was defeated by Wang Qiang of the 18th rank. Barty won the French Open this year. Wang defeated them 6–2, 6–4 in straight sets. Barty had not lost a single set in the last two matches against Wang. Wang reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam for the first time. She is the first Chinese woman in the last 5 years to reach the last-8 of this tournament. Peng Shuai last reached the final-8 in 2014.
