Daviis Cup: Rafael Nadal leads Spain to semi-finals, Djokovic’s team loses
Spain defeated Argentina in the quarter-finals. Serbia’s team lost to Russia.
After winning the singles, Rafael Nadal also won the doubles with Marcel Granollers to beat Argentina 2–1 and lead Spain to the semi-finals. Earlier, Guido Pella defeated Argentina Pablo Carona Busta 6-7, 7-6, 6-1 on Friday evening to give Argentina a 1-0 lead. Nadal then defeated Diego Schwartzman 6–1, 6–2, bringing Spain 1–1 on par.
Rafael Nadal then defeated the pair of Maximo Gonzalez and Leonadre Mayer 6-4, 6-3 in a doubles match with the Granollers, leading Spain to the final four with a 2–1 victory. Spain’s team reached the semi-finals for the first time since 2011. Where Britain will face its challenge.
Britain defeated Germany 2–0 in another match to secure their place in the semi-finals. On the other hand, Serbia’s team was eliminated from the competition after losing 1-2 to Russia. Russia’s team reached the semi-finals for the first time since 2008. Russia will face Canada in the semi-finals.
