Sarpreet first Indian-origin player to play for Bayern Munich
Midfielder Sarpreet Singh became the first Indian-origin footballer to play in the German Football League Bundesliga.
Sarpreet made his Bayern Munich debut in a match played against Werder Bremen here on Saturday night. Bayern Munich defeated Warder Bremen 6–1 with the help of a hat-trick from Philippe Coutinho in this match.
The 20-year-old Sarpreet Singh impressed everyone with his performances against Real Madrid and Arsenal during the pre-season. He had to sit on Bayern Munich’s bench eight times before making his official debut.
Sarpreet Singh is born in New Zealand. He made his New Zealand debut last year. He played his last match in India for New Zealand in the 2018 Intercontinental Cup. He has played 39 matches for Phoenix.
Sarpreet has played six matches for New Zealand so far. He has also participated in the Under-19 FIFA World Cup. It was only after seeing his Under-19 World Cup performance that Bayern Munich decided to join him.
